Inside the Supply Chain and Purchasing Industry

Tim, I desperately need your HELP, Part II

November 29, 2010

“Tim, I desperately need your HELP !”

The market is definitely changing…I received a call from a prospective client, looking for a Supervisor in their Supply Chain – an important role for this firm…for any organization, for that matter. There were the regular initial questions, a comment that TMA was referred to them by a respected and trusted source, and they also saw us on the Internet, and were compelled to call.

However, after a brief introduction, the real ‘problem’ came out. “We hired someone from another recruiter…and the person lasted TWO weeks before they left us.” Even with my 14 years of experience, that’s still surprizing, to hear. I don’t want to interfere with anyone’s relationship with another firm, but I was compelled to ask…”so what happened after that…?” The answer – “Nothing, we paid them for the previous candidate, and now they’re starting a new search for us!”

Unbelieveable. No guarantee, no reimbursement on what they paid, no credit on the next hire…and they’re STILL working with the same recruiter. Hard to believe, and that’s definitely NOT the way we operate here at TMA. (The firm that called is now a new client of ours.)

A returning client also called last week, after experiencing a similar problem. “Tim, we used our own means and attracted good candidates. We extended an offer of employment, which was ACCEPTED…and yet the candidate never showed up. Oh, and by the way, this has happened TWICE now, with the same position, and we URGENTLY need your help to get a stronger candidate, with more integrity, that will ‘stick.”

I’m happy to say, that the position has just been filled by TMA this week….another more than happy client – and candidate.

The market for supply chain professionals is improving greatly, and the ranks of those immediately available or looking is shrinking across Canada. Companies should not be waiting for the economy to improve or the New Year to begin, to start their search for qualified and experienced Supply Chain professionals.

Here are some of the other Supply Chain related positions that we’re working on at Tim Moore Associates.
